Second Nature Support
Second Nature is a simple, focused iOS app designed to help you build and maintain skills through structured review. If something isn’t working the way you expect, start here.
Second Nature: Quick Start
Second Nature helps you turn things you care about into… second nature — by tracking your practice and nudging you at the right time.
1) Create your first Skill
Tap Add Skill (or + sign in upper-right of main screen).
Give it a clear name you’ll recognize fast (examples: “C Chord,” “French Flashcards,” “Double Lift,” “Daily Stretch”).
Add the optional Notes (or “details”) if you want a quick reference while practicing—key steps, a checklist, a snippet of the poem, etc.
2) Set your practice frequency
Choose how often you want to practice (daily / every few days / weekly, etc.).
Pick a frequency you can actually sustain. If you’re unsure, start easier and tighten it later.
3) Log practice as you go
When you practice, tap Mark as Practiced.
That’s it—Second Nature records it and uses it to know when to remind you next.
4) Use reminders (notifications)
Turn on Notifications when prompted (or in iOS Settings).
Second Nature will remind you when a skill is due based on your frequency.
5) Keep things tidy over time
If a skill is something you’re not working on right now, Pause it (so it stops reminding you).
If you’re done with a skill forever, Delete it (note: deleting also removes its history).
A simple way to get value fast
Start with 5–10 skills, keep frequencies realistic, and focus on building the habit of logging practice. You can always refine names, notes, and frequency once the routine sticks.
Second Nature uses iOS notifications to remind you when it’s time to practice.
Check the following:
Go to Settings → Notifications → Second Nature
Make sure Allow Notifications is turned on
Confirm Alerts (Lock Screen, Notification Center, Banners) are enabled
Make sure Focus Mode isn’t silencing reminders
If reminders still aren’t appearing:
Open the app once (this refreshes scheduled notifications)
Restart your device
Second Nature uses iCloud (CloudKit) to sync your skills and history across devices.
To verify sync:
Go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud
Make sure iCloud Drive is enabled
Make sure Second Nature is enabled in the list of apps
Confirm both devices are signed into the same Apple ID
After enabling iCloud, open the app and allow a few moments for syncing.
If data still doesn’t appear, try:
Force quitting and reopening the app
Restarting the device
When you delete a skill, any associated practice history is permanently removed.
Deleted skills cannot currently be restored.
If you’re unsure, consider pausing a skill instead of deleting it.
If something seems broken after an update:
Confirm you’re running the latest iOS version
Confirm you’re using the latest version of Second Nature in the App Store
